Most locals love to travel out of the country during the holidays, especially since Singapore is well connected to many destinations world-wide. Sometimes, the idea of travelling may not be as appealing especially when the holidays is the time to spend with family and friends and when they are all in one place. And if you have older family members or really young kids, the hassle of travelling and planning that trip can be daunting.

Singapore is small but we have some great nooks for a vacation! Here are some suggestions where you can have a staycation located in serene areas where you can enjoy quality family time with the extended family. Surrounded by the serene ‘countryside’ and away from the bustling concrete jungle, you just might forget you’re still in Singapore!

Wild Wild far-east
Civil Service Club is a local recreation and lifestyle club which offers chalets and villas designed for the truly Singaporean families.

Suitable for older folks, guests can rent mah-jong table and sets to play during their stay in the modern and beautiful villas at CSC@Changi. Here’s a tip: definitely check out their automatic mah-jong tables which helps to set-up the mah-jong tiles, giving non-mahjong players an excuse to learn the game.

For the young, they can play all day at the swimming pool with fun slides and water features. Or choose from various sports and activities all available at the clubhouse – compete in a bowling match at the glow-in-the-dark bowling centre or a round of tennis at their roof-top courts or sing your lungs out all-night at the karaoke lounge.

Civil Service Club also manages Loyang chalets which are perfect for big families because they usually have 3 bedrooms and have a wide open space where kids can run around and play without fear of being too noisy or disturbing the neighbours. If you are up for an adventure, you can also try out water sports such as stand-up paddling, kayaking, jet-skiing at the recently- opened sea sports centre.

Glamp for a truly beachfront experience
How about camping it with style? Stay out a few nights at East Coast Park, enjoy a family barbeque and wake up to the cool breeze and views of the sea. Unless you stay in Sentosa cove, this is the closest experience to a beachfront stay!

Wait, you don’t have to sleep on the grass and uneven earth which could get uncomfortable for your back. Local glamping tents come with queen-sized beds, pillows and blankets to shield you from the windy sea breeze.

Glampingkaki has huge tents that can sleep up to 6 (3 queen-sized beds). They do a set-up with comfortable throw cushions or table and chairs too. All you need it to book a spot near the barbeque pit and you can enjoy a BBQ dinner as well.

Rustic Farm Kampong style
Situated at the northwest of Singapore and surrounded by over 100 farms in Kranji including Bollywood Veggies, Garden Asia and Hay Dairies, is Gallop Kranji Farm Resort which features countryside local farm stay experience. With about 50, 000sqm of land occupied by lush greenery, there is quite a bit to do within the area – you can tour the vegetables, fruits and herb plantations and take home some freshly made honey or bird’s nest from their World of Birdnest Museum.

Children can interact with animals such as feeding and riding ponies, watching baby parrots hatch, feeding koi or try prawning. There’s an indoor play areas as well as an outdoor playground with water play to keep them busy and occupied.

The resort can also arrange for farm visits atto the nearby farms such as Hay Dairies, Singapore’s only goat farm where you can meet the goats, milk and feed them.
