Picnics are a fun way to get the family together and enjoy the great outdoors! Planning a family picnic doesn’t have to be stressful. With some thought and careful planning, you and your family can have a great picnic without losing the fun factor.
Whether you choose to play frisbee or take a leisurely stroll, these popular green grounds can offer you a great time with the family.
1. The Botanic Gardens
With 3 main sections within the Gardens – the “Tanglin Core”, the “Central Core” and the “Bukit Timah Core”, there are plenty of beautiful green spaces for your family to enjoy. Lay down your picnic mat almost anywhere, or head to picnic hotspots at Palm Valley and Symphony Lake. Make a beeline for these spots early on the weekends as spaces fill up pretty quickly when there are free classical music concerts held.
2. MacRitchie Reservoir Park
An early morning breakfast at the MacRitchie Reservoir Park is a beautiful start to the day. The green views and calming scenery are reasons why this place is such a popular destination for nature lovers and fitness enthusiasts. Convenient amenities such as toilets, drinking fountains, showers and a basic food kiosk for snacks and beverages can be found here.
3. Marina Barrage
An innovative dam that supplies water and helps to alleviate floods in Singapore, the top deck of Marina Barrage offers a vast space for your kiddos to run around! Spread your blankets, fly a kite and enjoy the cool breeze. With a panoramic view of the city, it’s no wonder that the Barrage is a go-to picnic spot in Singapore. Stay until night time and catch the stunning cityscape light up or simply gaze at the stars.
Besides choosing the perfect picnic spot to accommodate your family size, remember to pack a safe and healthy basket for the family! For perishables, don’t forget to bring an insulated lunch pack. Any food that has been exposed for more than an hour should be tossed. Sandwiches with assorted fillings are fun for children to eat, but be sure to pack them in a container between layers of wax paper to prevent them from drying out. When it’s hot out, children will need more fluids than usual. Remember to pack their water bottles along to keep them hydrated.
Gather the family, slather on some sunscreen, put your shades on and go have fun! Also look out for Families for Life Picnics at the neighbouring parks near you where we will have lots of family fun activities and movie screenings.
