World Dyslexia Awareness Week 2018
People with dyslexia may face difficulties in learning, but they are distinctive in their strengths and talents too! Did you know that due to lack of understanding of dyslexia, children with this learning difference are often misunderstood, mis-labelled and not given proper attention and support? Organised by Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), activities at the World Dyslexia Awareness Week (WDAW) aim to help the public understand the challenges brought about by dyslexia – affecting up to one out of 10 people around us.

Octoburst!
Octoburst! is Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay annual children’s festival. In its 16th edition, performances, activities and workshops have been put together to spur the imagination of young minds to explore the world of theatre, dance and music. This year, there will be an inaugural Children Parade where children can participate in for free. Just dress in blue or white and bring a music instrument to join in the march. Ticketed programmes include interactive theatrical performances from Poland, UK and Italy, or catch the Sleeping Beauty ballet. Visit the event site with more details on the full line-up.

CSC @ Loyang Open House
Especially for families with dogs, head to the far east of Singapore at Loyang for a fun-filled weekend with free sea sports activities to try out and workshops and activities. Activities include yoga class, obedience talk, pet photography for your furry family member and stand-up paddle boards, paddle boat and water trampoline for the kids. The event is open to all with CSC members getting a special goodie bag when they turn up with their dogs.

The Play-Full Conference 2018: A Child’s Right To Play
For all parents and educators, this conference seeks to unleash your inner child so that you may experience the thrill, risks, pleasure and benefits of child-directed play. Speakers will share practical strategies for teachers and/or parents can provide the optimal environment for children to play. This event is jointly organised by Chapter Zero, social enterprise that supports parents of young children, and Playeum, a non-profit, independent organisation that champions children through play and creativity.

Written and directed by Kate Golledge and Ellis Kerkhoven, Nursery Crimes feature a line-up of familiar nursery rhyme characters aimed to delight and entertain adventurous minds. Produced by local theatre producer, SRT, Nursery Crimes follows the adventure of Polly Piper who uncovers a magical doorway into a magical world, Miny Moe. Appointed as King Cole’s chief detective, Polly Piper gathers clues in an attempt to catch the culprit who has turned Miny Moe topsy turvy with naughty crimes springing up everywhere. Recommended for 4 years and above.

Peter and the Starcatcher

Peter and the Starcatcher
Winner of five Tony Awards, Peter and the Starcatcher is a hilarious, hair-raising, and heartwarming prequel to the Peter Pan legend, and a celebration of the innocence, imagination and resilience of the Child. Produced by local theatre company, Pangdemonium, the play has been adapted to a Singapore setting and features a dozen actors coming together to portray more than 100 characters on stage. HomeTeamNS REAL® Run
With the aim of encouraging healthy lifestyle and staying fit, HomeTeamNS has been organising this run since 1996. Although the run is targeted at NSmen, the event welcomes NSmen and their families to join in a 3km fun walk around Gardens by the Bay, which flags off at 7.30am. For seasoned runners, there is a 21km or a 10km route which runs along ECP. After your walk or run, cool-off at carnival with giant lawn games such as human foosball, giant jenga, archery tag and pool soccer. A good idea to kickstart on your Sunday morning!
