Desire to gift your loved one with an uniquely holistic experience on his/her birthday? One that promises a refreshing alleviation from the hustle and bustle of everyday? It doesn’t matter if they do not have the time to travel overseas for the well-deserved break because they can enjoy this body-and-mind respite right here in Singapore—by simply floating.

What’s that again?

Floating in a floatation tank, also known as an isolation or sensory deprivation tank, though new on the shores of Singapore, has been around for about 40 years! Fun fact: The first floatation tank was developed in 1954. Encapsulated in such tanks that are filled with water that contains high level of Epsom salts, you do absolutely nothing except to float for a specific period of time.

Sounds pretty aimless, you may say. However, it has been proven that floating in a floatation tank has manifold benefits, namely:

  • Relieves stress rapidly

  • Boosts problem-solving ability and creativity

  •  Frees the mind from distractions to improve mental clarity

  • Increases receptiveness to kick bad habits/addictions

  • Triggers deep relaxation with the loss of sensory input

  • Optimises athletic performance

  • Speeds up recovery of muscle aches, etc.

  • Helps combat insomnia

  • Aids absorption of the minerals, magnesium and sulfates, which are found in the Epsom salt and are essential vitamins required by your body

  • And many more!

To optimise the floating experience, do note these tips:

  • You are strongly encouraged to make a reservation to avoid disappointment as the tanks are very popular

  • Amenities, such as shampoo, towels, earplugs and shower gel, will be provided

  • If you have any cuts, cover it with Vaseline as it will sting when it comes into contact with the salt water; or just wait till it has fully healed

  • Dry your face completely to avoid having the salt water stick to your face

  • Go with an open mind and try not to have any expectations

  • Bring along a brush/comb to smooth out tangles, especially if you have long hair

  • It is advisable not to schedule any activity after your float, at least for 1-2 days

So, surprise your beloved with this one-of-a-kind gift... or even join in the fun!
